About:

A passionate mathematician from an early age, I am excited to inspire and guide students towards a great interest and success in their own study of Maths. From studying Maths at Oxford to holding executive positions in the aviation industry, I have sustained a love of Mathematics through a long academic and business career. Now in retirement, I have now returned to my childhood passion to tutor Maths full-time, primarily within the Swiss curriculum, IGCSE, A Level and IB.

"Excellent professionals that care! My children have progressed to a higher level with more confidence. Thank you Tutorplus!" - Maths Parent of children in Swiss system.

"Alexander has been a great help for our son, Savvas. From the moment they started we saw a huge progress and our son has not only improved but is also enjoying the lessons !"

Teaching experience and approach:

I have Mathematics First Class Honours and a PhD in Relativity from Oxford University. After studying at Oxford I took up a Post Doctoral Research Fellowship in Particle Physics. I then moved into business, holding several senior executive positions at both British Airways and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). I retired in 2021 and returned to my childhood passion of Mathematics alongside continuing to provide strategic advice relating to the aviation industry.

During a tutorial students can expect clear and simple explanations of a particular maths concept. I tailor my explanations to the current level, needs and confidence of the student so that they can gain a full understanding of the concept and its application. With this foundation in place, I actively encourage and support the student in building confidence and sound technique for solving problems, including under exam conditions. Throughout the tutorial it is a priority for me to keep the student positively engaged and motivated. So far, I have found that this approach generates beneficial results in the academic progress of my students.

Qualifications:
