About:
A certified teacher, I have been teaching English langauge and literature since 2004. I teach and tutor IGCSE and IB English as well as IB Theory of Knowledge, and I am also a school-appointed tutor for students taking the IB School-Supported Self-Taught (SSST) Language A: Literature course. I bring over a decade of experience as an IB examiner in two subjects (Language & Literature and TOK) to my teaching, ensuring students know exactly what is necessary to excel in their exams, internal and external assessments and extended essays. I am passionate about all forms of creativity and expression, and I have a knack for logic and critical thinking. This gives me a well-rounded approach to literary analysis, interpretation, argumentation, essay writing, and related topics.

Teaching experience and approach:
My educational background is in literature, cultural studies and philosophy, and I hold a MA in European Studies as well as a TEFL teaching certificate. I started my career as an English teacher in language schools in Asia and Central Europe before beginning to teach within the IGCSE, MYP and IB Diploma programmes in 2010.
I take a particular interest in helping students discover their potential through oral and written communication, inspiring critical, analytical and creative thought in the pursuit of personal, communal and global awareness. The core of my teaching philosophy is openness. This means listening to my students and drawing upon my decades of skill and experience to adjust to their needs. Every student is unique and part of the excitement of my job is figuring out how we will connect and learn from each other. I hope to think my openness will be contagious, and the student will grow in confidence to make great strides in their learning.

ParentI used Tutors plus for my daughter who has dyslexia. I particularly like that they listened to my needs and paired her with Alan who had experience of using innovative and alternative styles of tutoring to reach her learning style. It was a personal service rather than a blanket service. I was contacted intermittently to confirm all was on track.
