TutorsPlus is based in Geneva, Switzerland – the home of the IB.
The International Baccalaureate was founded in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland. The head quarters of the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organisation) is still based in Geneva
The objective of this programme was to “provide an internationally acceptable university admissions qualification suitable for the growing mobile population of young people whose parents were part of the world of diplomacy, international and multinational organizations” (ref. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Baccalaureate)
The first IB School in the world was the International School of Geneva, which still exists today on 3 sites across Geneva (nicknamed Ecolint, the 3 sites are called La Grande Boissiere, La Chataignerie and Nations).
Many of our tutors (and students) are from Ecolint, bringing a wealth of experience from the home of the IB.
Emma has degrees from the University of Paris in Comparative Literature and from the Sorbonne in French Literature. She chiefly teaches English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. She tutors the TOEFL, IGCSE and IB Diploma, French Baccalaureate, and the Swiss Maturité.
Wendy has a Masters degree in Education and has been teaching in International schools for 13 years, she is a specialist in Biology, Environmental Science, and Chemistry at IB Diploma and IGCSE level and also teaches general Science to secondary school students.
Valeria is known for her expertise in tutoring Maths and Physics for the last 8 years with TutorsPlus, and for her highly focused IB Diploma and IGCSE exam preparation. She has a Phd in Mathematical Physics and taught at University level in Italy and the UK.
Tony has 40 years of experience teaching Physics at prestigious boarding schools around the world. Formerly he taught at Aiglon Collège in Switzerland. Now, as an IB Examiner, he uses his experience to prepare students for the IB. He teaches them exam techniques and supports Internal Assessments to help students achieve their potential.
Sofie is a Primary & Middle School Teacher. She has taught at international schools in Belgium, Bermuda, Spain and now Zurich & Zug. She tutors all primary subjects. Secondly, she supports children with special educational needs like dyslexia, ASD and ADHD.
Albena brings 20 years of international teaching experience to the TutorsPlus team. At the moment she is Head of Maths and teaches the IB Diploma, IGCSE, and AP. She has an MSc in Maths and Computer Sciences and a second Masters in Educational. She also tutors the Maths IA.
With 10 years of experience teaching English, Anna is an Examiner for the IB and GCSE AQA exam board. In addition to her first-class degree in English from Durham University, she is also a certified Teacher. More recently she has also taught at Collège Champittet.
After 10 years’ teaching, first in London, then Oporto, Chris now teaches English IB Diploma in Geneva and has been an Examiner since 2015. He completed his Masters in Education at Cambridge University to become a qualified teacher, and has successfully tutored many students for TutorsPlus since 2015.
Jonathan has been a teacher for over 20 years. Firstly in New Zealand, then Zurich, and has been teaching the IB Diploma in an International School at HL and SL since 2002. As an Examiner he is able to teach the techniques students need in their final IB Diploma exams.
Katarina is a qualified primary school teacher with a Master’s in International Education. Following her Master’s degree, she has taught in Switzerland, Italy & the U.S. She loves working with diverse students and believes in focusing on each individual’s needs and interests. Specifically, she tutors English and Maths to younger learners.
Kene is a certified teacher and has taught in the UK and US. He also has a first-class degree in Biology and Education from Vassar College in New York. He crafts exciting lessons so that he engages students & they see quick improvement, helping them reach their potential.
Laura is a qualified English teacher with a Masters in Education. Above all, she has a passion for teaching, bringing with it humour and fun. Laura specialises in tutoring English Language and Literature at IB and IGCSE level. She also tutors students with special educational needs in Geneva.
Philip has over 40 years of experience teaching IB, A Level, IGCSE. As head of Humanities at the International School of Geneva, he taught Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay & Internal Assessments. “Phillip was a fantastic tutor! Last year I received a 1 in history and this year I received one point away from a 6.”
Rebecca is a qualified primary school teacher with 10 years of experience. Above all, she teaches literacy and Maths. She helps international school students develop a love of learning, inspiring them to be confident and happy individuals. Also, when she is not teaching she is training new teachers in key pedagogical skills.
