I have been teaching for over 30 years, working primarily within the international education sector, specialising in English and performance subjects. I have many years' experience teaching English Language and Literature through a variety of syllabi and have most recently taught IB and iGCSE. I ran a big English Department in Portugal for 6 years and have been an examiner for the IB for 10 years, including a Principal Examiner for some components of the course. I believe that good understanding of a language can help students of all subjects to communicate more effectively, and that literature can inspire both understanding and creativity. Alongside my teaching, I have been extensively involved in Drama productions both in and out of school, as well as the Model United Nations.

I was educated in South Africa and hold two degrees in English Literature, with sub-majors in Latin and Legal Theory. It was there that my love of Literature developed through a greater appreciation of how it tells the stories of our cultures and our world. I have extensive experience in teaching IB English A: (Literature, Language and Literature and also Literature and Performance), A Level (Literature and Language) and Matric English. I also have a great deal of experience preparing students for iGCSE English for different exam boards.

For the IB, I have examined a number of components and have also been Principal Examiner for the Individual Oral and Paper 2. This has informed my ability to help students both with IAs and IOs, as well as their exam preparation. My Extended Essay supervision includes: Literature, Language and Literature, Literature and Performance, Theatre Studies, and Film. I develop positive working relationships with my students and enjoy guiding and inspiring them to enjoy their studies as well as improving their grades.
